Throughout elementary, middle and high school I took standardized tests for the state. To come to Michigan all of us had to take either the ACT or SAT. Standardized testing is starting to become less popular. Since 2012, the number of states that have high school students take an exit exam reduced from 25 to 13. In many other states they have cut back on the amount of time students spend taking standardized tests. One worry I have is that it will be difficult to judge schools and teachers without these tests. What does the caucus think?
Questions to think about:
Is standardized testing the best way to measure a student’s academic ability?
Are there other ways to measure student’s academic ability?
If standardized testing were eliminated where should that funding go?
