The Fox and the Hedgehog

So I'm reading Stephen Jay Gould's last book, The Hedgehog, the Fox, and the Magister's Pox: Mending the Gap Between Science and the Humanities. It's one of those books that's more interesting to think about than to read, so I'm not sure if I'll make it through, but the hedgehog and the fox from the title have been sticking in my mind.
They come from a proverb by Archilochus as quoted by Erasmus (and since I'm quoting Gould quoting Erasmus, that makes this a 4th generation quote):
The fox devises many strategies; the hedgehog knows one great and effective strategy.
Gould wants us to think of this as a metaphor for Science and The Humanities, but I like it on more of a personal level: Are you a fox or a hedgehog?
Spread the word.
